MANAGING THE LEED CERTIFICATION PROCESS

1 Session, 4 Hours Total. This course gives an introduction to LEED, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), certification and provides practical training on how to manage the USGBC, (U.S. Green Building Council), LEED certification documentation process. LEED Online and other tools help to lead group meetings to assess, plan and implement LEED certification solutions and measures, troubleshoot potential setbacks, and coordinator the responsibilities of each team member. The teaching method is interactive and includes group discussions, worksheets, research projects, and class presentations. Students gain the practical skills needed to hit the ground running on a LEED project.

PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLS
1 Session, 4 Hours Total. Prerequisite: A basic understanding of electricity and computer operations. This eight-hour course is designed to instruct students with minimal knowledge of basic electricity and motor controls how to understand, troubleshoot, and write basic Programmable Logic Controller programs. Students will learn the purposes of PLCs and how they function, as well as how to convert a basic ladder logic circuit to a PLC program. This seminar was previously listed in the Spring 2009 Catalog, (p. 42) as "Understanding PLC's (Programmable Logic Controls).

SCHEMATIC READING, BASIC
1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This one-day program explores the different types of schematics that technicians see in the work enviornment. Students will learn how to read a ladder diagram, become familiarized with various symbols, and learn how to use a meter to check components prior to being wired into the system. This program will also cover different motor controls schematics, and the Hopscotch and Tiedown methods of troubleshooting

VARIABLE FREQUENCY DRIVES
1 Session, 8 Hours Total. This seminar will provide a fundamental understanding of variable frequency drives as applied in HVAC applications. Students will learn how VFDs work and their application on fan motors and pump motors in HVAC systems. How VFDs extend the motor life and reduce maintenance costs will also be presented. Class size is limited to no more than 10 students for quality instruction, so register early!
