BLUEPRINT READING

1 Session, 8 Hours Total.
Prerequisite: None.
This course will provide an overview of the theories used in putting drawings on paper and review the terminology found on blueprints commonly used in the maintenance of buildings. Class will inlcude lecture, hands-on drills, and skill enhancement exercises.

BOILER OPERATION AND EFFICIENCY

1 Session, 4 Hours Total.
Prerequisite: A basic understanding of boilers.

This seminar will cover boiler operations. We will focus on safety and burner control function, natural gas combustion train CSD-1 regulatory code, and improving boiler efficiency. Students will participate in a hands-on troubleshooting session using our specially designed combustion trainers.

ELECTRICAL TROUBLESHOOTING FUNDAMENTALS

1 Session, 8 Hours Total.
Prerequisite: None.

This one day program will enhance the student’s ability to diagnose problems with electrical control circuits commonly found within our industry. After a brief review of basic schematic fundamentals, circuit logic, and meter use students will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in troubleshooting ladder diagrams and motor control circuits through hands-on drills and skills enhancement practices.

FIRE PUMP TEST PREPARATORY TRAINING

1 Session, 2.5 Hours Total.

Prerequisite: None.
The purpose and scope of this class is to serve as a coaching course to better prepare a Stationary Engineer to be successful when taking the closed book California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) multiple choice Certificate Test on the Weekly Inspection, Testing & Maintenance of Building Fire Pumps. The instructor will provide an overview of the law, guidance on completing the CSFM forms, weekly fire pump test study material, and in-class review of weekly fire pump test procedures and information. By California State law each building must maintain a copy of the NFPA 25 – 2006 Edition Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems, which is also the required textbook to bring to class. NFPA 20 – 2007 Edition, Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection, is recommended for test preparation purposes, but not required for the class or by the State Fire Marshal to be at the building site. This seminar will also provide access to our On-Line multiple choice practice test based on reference CSFM Material.

Note: This course does not include the fees for registration to take the CSFM Certification Test.

MOTOR BASICS W/METER

1 Session, 7 Hours Total.
Prerequisite: None.

Students will receive a SUPCO M500 Megger when attending this seminar. Students will be instructed in some of the basic motor types, as well as the categories of the insulation in the motors. Discussion on why the newer motors need better insulation and the proper techniques to “Megging” a motor. A Megger can also detect wiring problems in conduit. This is an important tool in diagnosing grounded compressor motors, deteriorating insulation in electric motors and insulated wires.

STEAM BOILER WATER TREATMENT

1 Session, 4 Hours Total.
Prerequisite: A basic understanding of steam boilers.

This seminar will cover steam boiler water chemistry. We will focus on the methods used to control scale and corrosion control, steam system treatment and maintenance. Students will learn optimizing chemical feed control for superior results and chemical test procedures. Students will also participate in a hands-on chemical testing session.
